Short-term Benefits after retirement

Benefits after membership expiry

Sickness and Injury Allowance

When you had been a member for a year or longer and started receiving the Sickness and Injury Allowance before retirement, you are entitled to continue receiving the allowance after retirement if you are under medical treatment and unable to work. This is also applicable to Voluntary Continued Insurance Member as well as those who did not receive the Sickness and Injury Allowance during employment because they were remunerated.
However, the allowance is not payable when you apply for employment to receive employment insurance benefits or when you have become a member of another mutual aid association or other Health Insurance.
The Disability Employees’ Pension is subject to adjustment when you are employed. The annuities you may receive due to retirement or age may also be subject to adjustment after the expiry of membership.

Note:1
The allowance period is the same as that for a member.
Note:2
The daily allowance is calculated based on the Monthly Standard Salary (*).
* The Monthly Standard Salary is defined as the average Monthly Standard Salary during the consecutive twelve months before the month when the allowance payment starts.
Note:3
The Sickness and Injury Benefit is not payable.

Maternity Benefit

When you had been a member for a year or longer and gave birth within six months of retirement, you are eligible for the Maternity Benefit as in the case when you were a member; however, the Delivery Benefit is not payable.
When you gave birth as a dependent after you were retired, you are eligible for the Dependent Maternity Benefit (or the Lump-sum Birth Allowance). In this case, you may opt for either the Maternity Benefit as a recipient whose membership has been expired or the Dependent Maternity Benefit (or the Lump-sum Birth Allowance) as a dependent, whichever is larger.
When you gave birth as a member of another mutual aid association or health insurance (exclusive of the case with the National Health Insurance), the Maternity Benefit is not payable.
When you use the Direct Payment System, you must submit the “Certificate of Eligibility for Maternity Benefit by PMAC after Membership Expiry”.
When the actual delivery expense is less than the Maternity Benefit (420,000 yen or 404,000 yen), we will send you a written notification on the balance. Fill in the form and send back to us with a copy of the “Expense Statement” issued by the hospital.

Maternity Allowance

Even after retirement, the Maternity Allowance is payable until the end of the eligible period when you had been a member for one year or more and your salary was reduced because you took the leave before retirement, or when you had been a member for one year or more and your salary had not been reduced during the leave eligible for the allowance. Voluntary Continued Insurance Members are also eligible for the allowance.
However, if you have become a member of another mutual aid association or health insurance during the period from retirement until childbirth (exclusive of the case with the National Health Insurance), the Maternity Allowance is not payable for the period.

Note:1
The allowance period is the same as that for a member.
Note:2
The daily allowance is calculated based on the Monthly Standard Salary*.
* Monthly standard salary is defined as the average monthly standard salary during the consecutive 12 months before the month when the allowance payment starts.

Burial Benefit

The Burial Benefit is payable when a member dies within three months of retirement. The Supplementary Burial Benefit is not payable.
However when you join another mutual aid association or subscribe to another health insurance (excluding the case with the National Health Insurance), you are no longer eligible for the benefit.

Benefits for the Voluntary Continued Insurance Member

When you become a Voluntary Continued Insurance Member, you are eligible for healthcare benefits, disaster benefits and relevant supplementary benefits (exclusive of the Supplementary Sickness and Injury Allowance). The Sickness and Injury Allowance and the Maternity Allowance are payable only when certain requirements are fulfilled. The Leave Allowance is not payable to the Voluntary Continued Insurance Member.
